Bereavement and grief affect people differently. There is no right or wrong way to feel and people say their emotions can alter quickly in a short space of time. Bereavement is an emotionally traumatic and highly individual experience.
One of the frustrations of living with grief and learning to cope with loss is understanding that the re-building process does not follow a predictable path.
One step forward; two steps back is how some people describe living with loss. Time does not diminish the impact or scale of any loss. But time does allow you to build and grow a life around it, such that the new spaces you create provide room for fulfilment, while being able to manage the sense of loss which will never completely go away.
Intensity of emotions connected to bereavement.
Anger, guilt, fear and relief are intense emotions, that are hard to come to terms with. Grief can come in waves. Certain events or dates may trigger the onset of strong emotions. Bereavement counselling may provide an opportunity to explore your emotional responses and help you manage your way through difficult times.
